The current collapse of tourism has decimated livelihoods and put our ecosystem at immediate risk, as local communities seek sustenance

Funds are needed for quick-harvesting seeds to support the Batwa homesteads of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. We need to act now to protect our ecosystems, which include gorillas and otters.

The Covid 19 Impact

Gorilla tourism has been the lifeblood of the area since it started in 1992.

Guidelines from the President of the Republic of Uganda have closed the tourism industry and all the related businesses, due to the global pandemic that is still a strong threat for everyone.

The Batwa people are the most affected, as they are no longer able to use dance, theatre and handicrafts to support their livelihoods.

With almost no other survival options, there is an immediate and desperate need for food to sustain both the local communities and the ecosystem. The incentive for poaching needs to be stopped.

You can make a difference

There is a relatively quick difference we can make to support the people on the ground.

They are in urgent need of quick-harvesting seeds and tools to support these affected homesteads.

Providing these resources will keep the local communities nourished, poachers out of the forest and the whole ecosystem, including our iconic gorillas, safe.

SAVE THE MOUNTAIN GORILLAS PROJECT

Our aim is to support 79 Batwa and a further 287 homesteads in adjacent Bwindi, a total of 978 households, through:
