Introduction

Joint Efforts for Green Mountain Initiative (JEFGMI) a is a non-profit NGO located in Mukono parish, Kayonza Sub County, Kanungu District in South Western Uganda.

The organization was founded in 2019 to contribute to the conservation of the biodiversity in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and to combat malnutrition, hunger and poverty in communities bordering the protected area.

Our ultimate goal is to establish an environment where humans and nature are in harmony. JEFGMI implements a number of development initiatives in conservation, health, and education, income generating projects for livelihood improvement, water and sanitation to community members adjacent to the Bwindi Impenetrable National park.

Vision

To initiate climate and environmental sustainability and bring back the natural system of carbon sequestration, reduce pressure on flora and fauna, and create conducive microclimates for mountain gorilla community and other wildlife habitats in southwestern Uganda.

Mission statement

Our mission is to provide sustainable protective care for both wildlife and human beings living near the protected areas through contributing to environmental conservation and climate change mitigation, adaption, and actions that boost natural environment systems, regenerate biodiversity, and enhance ecological balancing.

Objectives

1. To provide sustainable protective care resource base for wildlife and humans

2. To improve the socioeconomic status of individuals through livelihood improvement

3. To provide a safe shelter and family-like environment for vulnerable and domestic-violence victims who have no one else to take care of them

4. To promote conservation of natural resource through recreation activities and awareness campaigns  

5. To promote health education and health environment for the communities in southwestern Uganda

6. To promote conservation of protected areas through working in partnership with protected area management and community sensitization programmes.
